Papers, 1867-1897.

Contains 1891 correspondence of Dwyer's penitentiary office concerning mainly requisition of supplies and other operations of the penitentiary. Materials prior to and following 1891 are scattered and relate mainly to Dwyer's real estate and livestock business. These include correspondence, memorandum and account booklets, a livestock branding log and miscellaneous deeds and mortgages. There are also two maps of Raton, New Mexico.

J.W. Dwyer was a rancher, businessman, and prison official who came to New Mexico Territory from Ohio in the late 1860s and in Raton, New Mexico, engaged in a real estate and livestock business. During the early 1890s he also served as president of the board of penitentiary commissioners for the territory of New Mexico. From the description of Papers, 1867-1897.
